Stehekin

This week I rode the Lady of the Lake ferry up to Stehekin WA. You can only get to Stehekin by boat or airplane. You get on the ferry at Chelan Wa and ride 50 miles up Lake Chelan to Stehekin the last town on the lake. It is so beautiful. I have lived only 20 minutes from Chelan all my life but I haven't ever rode the ferry to Stehekin. Why not? I don't have a good answer for you. But I thought this summer was a perfect opportunity to do so.

After the boat docked we (my family and I) walked two miles to the bakery. The Stehekin bakery is famous for there delicious pastries. I had a sandwich and ice cream when I was there. The bakery and the restaurant in town get all there produce from the Garden. The gardener has been there since 1975 and he sells to the shops and the people of the community. The garden is huge and beautiful. He also makes his own honey and goat cheese and everything is for sale. This the main source of fresh produce in Stehekin. There is no grocery store.

There is camping sites, fishing, hiking, horse back riding, etc. in Stehekin. I would love to ride the ferry up, camp, and come back a few days later. I think that would be a blast.
love, Carlee
