Rainbow Row & Waterfront Park | Charleston SC

This was probably one of my favorite times from our whole trip. Charleston, South Carolina is such a beautiful and historic city. We stayed in a hotel in the heart of downtown so that way we could walk everywhere we wanted to. We started our day walking from our hotel to The Battery and saw these huge gorgeous houses. Clark and I kept trying to guess how much the houses would sell for. I was guessing over a million but Clark thought no way. Who knows. Actually I know, I looked it up on Zillow and a bunch are actually for sale. The pink house that is pictures 5 photos below is for sale for 8.5 million so yeah, expensive. There are some very pretty houses and they are all so colorful. 

On our walk from the hotel to the Battery we saw a bunch of women selling palm tree woven baskets, roses, crosses, and bracelets. We stopped and Clark bought be some roses. You can see pictured above and the table with the lady’s photo on it is who we bought it from, she was so sweet. And did all the weaving herself. From The Battery we walked up to Rainbow Row then to Waterfront Park were we got to dip our feet in the Pineapple Fountain. Can we just talk about the Pineapple Fountain for a minute? It was a really cool fountain and there were kids swimming in it and it was nice to dip our feet in the fountain after walking through the hot and humid streets of Charleston. Rainbow Row was also really cool. I think it I lived in Charleston I would paint my house either a bright sunflower yellow (like the one above) or a lavender purple or maybe a turquoise blue. Ahhhh there are so many opntions. I don’t know. 

After leaving Waterfront Park we went to the Bakehouse to get some treats and cool down in the AC. I was really carving a cinnamon roll and Clark got a couple of cookies. After we walked to the corner of King and Queen Street and took a photo with it above our heads. Because Clark and I = King and Queen. Okay so that’s not true but still fun. Charleston is so pretty. I loved the cobblestone streets, the horse carriages, the colorful building, the architecture, the food, the italian ice stands on every corner, and all the people we met were so nice. I was once told that if I only visit one city in the south is should be Charleston SC and I can see why I was told that now. So lovely.

Angel Oak tree

After the concert on Thursday night we slept in pretty hard on Friday and when we woke up, I wanted to head about 15 miles away to John’s Island to visit the Angel Oak tree. I am so glad we did and if you are every in the Charleston area, it is a must see place. There is no admission fee and there is even a little gift shop. Unfortunately there were signs every 5 feet saying do not climb etc. I think it was more about not allowing the visitors to get a really good photo of the whole tree because in the gift shop you weren’t supposed to take photos of the professional tree photos. Also beware, the turn to the Angel Oak tree is pretty sharp and travel slow down the dirt road.

Anyways, the tree was magnificent. The atmosphere around the tree was so calm, quiet, and peaceful. We whispered the entire time because it didn’t feel right to talk in a normal voice. Maybe you just have to be there to know what I am talking about. At one point I asked Clark “what do you think the tree would say if it could talk” and Clark said “Climb me.” It looked like the perfect climbing here but obviously that isn’t allowed and for good reason. The tree is estimated to be 400-500 years old but some experts think it would be closer to 1000-1500 so who knows. I like to believe it is around 1500 years old but that’s probably not true. 

After we visited the tree we headed to Sunrise Bistro just down the road on John’s Island. I totally recommend Sunrise Bistro it is a nice little gem of a breakfast spot. I had the biscuits and grave and Clark had the breakfast burrito. And the hot chocolate is great too.

Florida Georgia Line Concert

On Thursday, Clark and I hopped in the car and headed to Charleston, SC for a 5 day vacation. Our first stop was a Florida Georgia Line concert with Nelly, Thursday night. It was actually Clark and I’s first concert together. I have been to many concerts but this was only Clark’s second. It was a really good time and one of my favorite concerts I have ever been too. We bought general admission tickets for $40, it was on the floor standing only. The concert started at 7:30 with Chris Lane (then Nelly performed his set) and it ended with Florida Georgia Line and Nelly performing Cruise at around 11:30. So we stood for the better part of 4 hours. And man were my legs tired but it was totally worth it.

I was really excited to see both Florida Georgia Line and Nelly. You can definitely tell that Nelly is a seasoned performer and was very good on stage. He transitioned well between songs, covered some songs that weren’t his, and mixed some of his songs together. He even pulled a couple girls on stage. He was a good performer and that is what I love when I go to a concert. Florida Georgia Line was also awesome. You could tell they weren’t as used to the big stage as Nelly (didn’t transition as well and a tiny bit out of breath as points) but still so good. There sound was also really clear. I took a couple videos on my phone and when I played them back it sounded super good. You can tell they like to have a good time and party and for me that is what a concert is all about a big party.

Those of you that have been to a concert, you know that the people watching is great. Strangers drinking together, fighting, kissing, doing all sorts of crazy stuff. Because everyone knows ‘what happens at concerts stay at concerts.’ The one thing I was not a fan of is all the second hand smoke. People weren’t suppose to be smoking but during the intermissions it seemed everyone had a cigarette in there hand... not favorable. 

This is the outfit I wore to the concert and it was definitely a good choice. Light and breezy. I can’t wait to share all the photos with you from our weekend vacation. We had the best time. I will be sharing more tomorrow.
