365 project: March

1. We took the first photo of March when Clark took outfit photos for me. This might be my favorite photo from March.
2. Playing fetch with Knox behind the apartments.
3. In bed.
4. I am only human and forgot to take a photo of us this day. So instead I am sharing this photo that Clark's sister sketched out us.
5. Wedding photo because once again I forgot to take a photo.
6. My mom arrived from Washington State and we headed to the coast. It was so windy the first day.
7. Clark and I at the Wrights Brother National Memorial in Kitty Hawk NC.
8. Waiting for the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island.
9. At Fort Macon.
10. At Wrightsville Beach.
11. Selfie on the couch the last day my mom was in town.
12. Fixing up the car.
13. Walking.
14. Nice sunny day waiting outside Mellow Mushroom where we had dinner with our friends.
15. Cookies
16. Our Shadows
17. And just when you think the weather is turning for good. The cold and the rain came back around. But the dog still needs to be walked.
18. Making dinner.
19. We went for a walk. And yes I am wearing my striped pjs.
20. I am 100% enjoying the extra hour of daylight in the evening. That means Clark and I can enjoy it after he is done with work.
21. Outfit photos.
22. Clark got a new tattoo.
23. I like light blue gatorade and he likes red.
24. Being lazy on the couch.
25. Another one just at the end of the day because it was a long week. Clark had a lot of really late nights.
26. Clark fell asleep on my shoulder. For real.
27. Commissary trip. And a glimpse at Clarks new tattoo.
28. Watch March Madness. Virginia and Michigan State play. We were routing for Virginia since we know Joe Harris. (Went to high school same time, 20 minutes down the road from each other)
29. We got Oreos this week and were pretty excited.
30. Dog park.
31. Clark had to leave for work so early 6am that we didn't get a pic. But I got one of his shoes and Knox of course wanted to be in it.

View January and February

This month seemed a little harder than usual. I missed a view days and we had a long week last week. I am glad I finished and hopefully next month with be just as good. My week has already started good. Little Sloth reached 1,000 sales on Etsy. I am really excited and thinking about doing a promotion or giveaway.

Plaid in the woods

Spring is coming slowly but surely here in North Carolina. Growing up in Washington State we definitely had each season but spring always seems to come out of nowhere. Like one day it is cold then the next I realize that the flowers are blooming and the grass is green. But this season here in North Carolina seems to be taking forever to come out. Maybe it is just because winter seemed to take forever and it is March!! There should be green grass and flowers right? Right? I guess I am saying this because I am tired of the barren tree look for my photos.
I started a new instagram account for my shop and this blog specifically. With social media I was having a hard time balancing personal and business stuff. I wanted to post more business stuff (little sloth) but I didn't want to annoy my followers on instagram that I know want to know/see only personal stuff. So follow me at littlesloth_ for blog/shop stuff and I will follow you back. I am actually looking for more people to follow because right now I am following 15 people haha.
Yesterday, Clark had a jump. Meaning that he was to jump out of an airplane with a parachute and all. He is in an airborne unit in the army so once a month they have to jump out of a plane for practice. This time he actually got to jump out of a black hawk helicopter which he really enjoyed. Next jump I am gonna go watch which should be fun. Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? I think we are gonna keep it pretty low key this weekend. Hanging with friends mostly. Happy Friday.

Cherry tree blossoms

These are some of my favorite photos so far this spring. I like when photos show the season. Last week when I was driving to the post office I noticed a little grove of these cherry trees behind a daycare next to the post office. And it wasn't like they were planted there, it was just these trees growing naturally a bunch of them. I love when I am driving down the road and I see these trees growing everywhere. It is such a nice site and refreshing season. Spring here in North Carolina is shaping up to be a good one.
I was browsing pinterest the other night (every night in bed) and my usual searches are places I want to go, things I want to do or see. But this particular night I was looking for some outfit inspiration because I do have some really cute pieces in my closet I just never wear them. I seem to go to my closet with hope then its skinny jeans and a plan t-shirt. So I saw an outfit it was a belted skirt with a lace tank. I was that is so cute and I can totally do that. So I did.
This weekend we are planning on going over to friends house and playing some board games which should be fun. I have been looking for a formal dress for a military ball that is coming up. And I am having kind of a hard time. I don't want to look like I am going to prom (been there, done that.) I am trying to find a long black dress that isn't to expensive. I am going with black because it will match Clark's ASUs and well black goes with everything. So hopefully I find the perfect dress. Cross your fingers for me.

Perfect homemade rolls

These rolls are the best. I actually had to make a side dish for a BBQ that Clark's battalion was having last weekend. I decided on rolls because they are easy and I had all the ingredients on hand all I need was some time, so I decided to make the perfect homemade rolls. I adapted from this recipe and changed the directions a lot.
You'll need
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 eggs
5 teaspoons ative dry yeast
5 cups flour
1/2 cup butter, melted
Directions
1. In a small bowl put warm water and yeast together and let rise for 5 minutes.

2. Mix in egg, sugar, and milk, lightly.

3. In a large bowl put in the flour and pour liquid mixture over the flour. Do NOT stir. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

4. Add melted butter and stir until doughy. A little more flour might be needed. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

5. Shape the dough into rolls. 3/4 - 1 inch rolls. Let rise for 30 minutes -1 hour. They will rise quite a bit.

6. Brush egg on top of rolls.

7. Bake rolls at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
This recipe made about 30 rolls for me. And they all got eaten up at the BBQ. So this is definitely a recipe I will be trying again. I was actually making this banana bread a couple of weeks ago which was one of my very first recipes that I published here on the blog. And I had my computer out open in the kitchen looking at the recipe from my blog, Clark thought it was funny. Anyways, usually the recipes I post aren't ground breaking but it is nice to have an archive of recipes that worked for me and are useful in my life.

Wrightsville Beach

This is my last post from our trip to the Outer Banks when my mom came to visit at the start of March. After visiting Fort Macon bright and early in the morning we headed south down the coast toward Wilmington which is where we stayed this night. About 30 minutes from Wilmington I ask my mom and Clark if they wanted to go to the beach one last time on this trip before heading into downtown Wilmington. We said yes and that is why you are getting this post on Wrightsville Beach. This was definitely one of the more touristy beaches we had been to all trip. Meaning: people, dogs, pay to park.
Once on the beach we walked to the pier and back. We only paid to park for an hour and the walk and playing on the beach took us just as long. I was thankful that Knox was allowed on the beach. At Wrightsville Beach dogs are allowed on the beach in the off season which ends March 31st. There were a lot of people with dogs. It was Sunday and a nice day so who can blame them. I would love to live close to the beach were your whole weekend can consist of laying on the beach with a homemade lunch in the cooler. I guess my weekend could consist of that but then there is a 2 hour drive both ways. But hey it could be worse, way worse. I am thankful.
So this is my last post from the trip Clark, my mom and I took to the Outer Banks when my mom came to visit at the beginning of March. Now on to what is going on now and I am also taking another look at my goals because I don't want this year to slip by without getting shit accomplished. I hope some motivation hits me this week and some good weather.

Fort Macon

This was one of my favorite stops on our trip. We arrived early so it was only us on the grounds for a while. We didn't really plan that but it was nice none the less. It is located in Atlantic Beach, NC and is the second most visited state park in North Carolina. There is no admissions charge which is great. Unfortunately for us you couldn't bring dogs inside the park, probably because they don't want them pooping on the grounds so we had to leave Knox in the car. But after we explored the grounds, we took Knox just over the bluff and explored the beach
The fort was constructed after the War of 1812 and was used in the Civil War by the confederacy until 1862 when the Battle of Fort Macon took place and fell back into the Unions hands. In 1936 it was refurbished and established as a state park, the first state park in North Carolina. But when WWII broke out the USA occupied the fort from 1941 until 1944. In 1946 the army returned the park to North Carolina and since then has been a state park.

In currently life, the weather is fricken awesome here today. First day of spring whoop whoop. I have had the same to do list for about 3 days and have yet to get very much accomplished. Today will be the day. (hopefully) I only have one more post from our trip so after this week, you will start getting true in time post like usual. Happy Thursday.

Ocracoke Lighthouse

After the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry docked we drove rather fast (shhhh don't tell) down Ocracoke Island. We were trying to make the Ocraoke-Cedar Island Ferry that only ran 3 times a day: 7:30am 1pm 4pm and we were trying to make the 1 o'clock. But before that I really wanted to see/check out the Ocracoke Lighthouse. I mean how many other times am I gonna take two ferries to this island so I knew I had to see this lighthouse. We did make it (as you can see) and we also made the 1pm ferry. Yay, go us.
So we didn't get to explore the grounds to much since we were in a bit of a hurry. But this lighthouse is actually one of my favorite in North Carolina. It is different then the other ones we have seen. It is short and stumpy and all white. I also like how the main house has a bright red roof, it adds a lot of character. There aren't too many lighthouses in North Carolina and I have only seen 3 but I plan on seeing the rest and making the most out of living here in NC. Because with Clark being in the military you usually don't stay in one place forever. But I do know we well be in NC for the next couple of years.
Currently, I am writing this blog post on the couch while Knox is sleeping next to me. What a sweet dog. Knox now weighs 50lbs! His dad was about 55lbs and his mom was 45lbs. So Knox should be done growing pretty soon. I was telling Clark yesterday that when Knox turns 1 year old (on August 1st) I am gonna be that crazy dog mom and get him toys and maybe even a doggy birthday cake haha. We will see. This weather here in NC is stupid. A few days ago it was 78 degrees and I was even temped to wear sandals but the last 3 days have crummy. Rainy and cold, 35 degrees cold. Later this week is suppose to be nicer so figures crossed!

Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry

We had to take two ferries down the coast of North Carolina and this was the first one. This ferry was one hour long and went from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. This was actually a ferry free so that was nice. We got to the ferry boarding area about 45 minutes early so we walked around a while and went to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. We didn't have a lot of time to look around the museum but it is all about shipwreck that have been lost in the Atlantic Ocean. We also went into a souvenir shop before the ferry left.
The ferry was rather small. It had a small upper deck were you could go and sit. We spent a lot of our time walking around and enjoying the fresh sea air. As you might be able to tell the weather was so much better then the day before. I was so thankful that the weather cleared up! After this ferry docked we booked it down Ocracoke Island because I wanted to see Ocracoke Lighthouse before our next ferry left. This was the longest day we had but it was a good one. I will be sharing the rest of my post and photos from our trip this week.

Spring weekend

This weekend has been a good one so far and its only Saturday morning! I am loving the extra hours of light at the end of the day. We have been talking long walks and  I am hoping that Clark and I will be taking walks after dinner during the week. I posted a photo last weekend on Instagram showing the pink dogwoods blooming and now all the white dogwoods are blooming and I am loving it guys! I know that the Dogwood is North Carolinas state flower but it is so fun to see them going in the wild. I also love the lighting in these photos. Yay for evening light. On Monday I will be back with more post from our trip to the coast but for now have a good weekend.
