Cherry Season has finally arrived. Starting tomorrow I will be waking up at 5 am, wearing yoga pants and baseball hats, lugging bucks and punching tickets. Something you might not know about me is that my dad is a apple and cherry farmer. I literally grew up in the middle of an orchard. I enjoy it a lot and it something that makes me unique. It will always be apart of me and definitely has made me who I am.

The family all helps with cherry harvest. We work from about 5am to noon (give or take) and it last about 20 days. We are all super tired after it is over but there is definitely a since of accomplishment. I have been doing this since I was about 13 years old. So about 7 years. This year I am helping out like always but not as much as I would like. We are starting swimming lessons tomorrow so I start working at the pool at 9am. So I will only be able to help from about 5am until 8am or so. I am sure in about a few days I will be so tired but for now I am excited for it.
What do you think of my haircut? I love it. It is so light and everyone says I look younger.
That is really cool. I've only been cherry picking once, but it was actually really fun. What a cool tradition for your family :)

ReplyDeleteThe dress is really lovely, beautiful detail, definitely the type of dress I'd envision myself wearing in a cherry orchard. I used to help pick olives when I was younger and it was definitely a lot of work! Wish you all the best.

Your story and these photographs are wonderful. I'm happy just looking at them and imagining working on an orchard- how fascinating! Your hair is lovely either way. I have to say after cutting 8 inches off of my hair earlier this spring, I have felt a million times better and more free. But your long hair was also truly beautiful!

Yeah I'd say working on a cherry farm is pretty unique! Do you still like eating cherries or do you find them really boring? Do your family have lots of unusual recipes involving cherries?
ReplyDeleteI love being in nature and trees, you are really lucky to have such a beautiful area to grow up in. :)
Wow that dress is really pretty, and I have that exact same belt! Great minds think alike, ya?
ReplyDeleteHappy cherry picking! I always liked going strawberry picking so I bet cherry picking is just as exciting! :)
