Advice for a military girlfriend (1)

...during his basic training.

As you know I am a military girlfriend. Which I never thought I would be but I am so proud of Clark. Also, I will probably write more advice posts about being a military girlfriend because there are a lot of different staged and steps along the way. In this post you will find tips and tricks for being a military girlfriend while he is basic training.

Tips
-During his basic training write and send him a letter everyday. He will be overjoyed to hear from you and you will feel like you get to talk to him during the day.
-Watch him graduate basic training. Assuming you are in a serious relationship with him (why would you stay together if not?) it is so important to be there for him during this milestone in his military life.
-Travel with his family to his basic training graduation. Same flight, hotel, etc. (Unless basic training is close to your hometown.)
-Get a Facebook and like his regiments page. There is usually a Facebook page set up specifically for his regiment. They post photos of the different stages of BCT and I found a few photos of my boyfriend. Definitely worth it.
-Stay in close contact with his family. Since you are only the girlfriend they are the ones that will get the graduation info, mailing address, etc. So make sure to check in with them and see if they have gotten any news.
-Know when he gets to call home. This way your phone will be glued to your hand that day.

Beware
-The only communication is through hand written letters! Clark gots 2 phone calls the whole time he was there. One at the end of week 4 and one at the end of week 8.
-You wont get very many letters from him while he is in basic. He is super busy. Just keep sending him letters and be strong.
-When he gets to call home he will also want to talk to his mom and dad. (Obviously) So share the love and the time he gets to call home.
-15 or 20 minutes on the phone with him will be the fastest of your life! Beware. For more photos from Clarks BCT view this post
I hope some of these tips come in handy.
love, Carlee

*Wonder why I am writing about this? Well this is something that I know about and I love when bloggers write about things they know, like when Kendi writes about opening her own boutique or Dana writing about her design business. Being a military girlfriend is something I know about and I will write a few post here and there about it. If it helps one girl out then I have done my job. I hope you enjoy.

  5. Kudos to you for being a military gf and tell your bf thank you for his service! Poor guy, basic is awful. Evan went from Alaska to Georgia for his basic and it was the middle of the summer-time. That heat and humidity was pretty killer for an alaskan boy! Good luck to your bf, he's doing a pretty awesome thing and you are an awesome girl for being there for him, that always means so much to the guys to have that support from home! You nailed it as well, it is so encouraging for them to get those letter from home, especially during basic when they're going through sometime so brutal.
thank you for this post, I love it when blogger talk about they're real lives and it doesn't seem like there's a huge community of military wives/gfs in the style blogging world. (Or maybe I just haven't seen any!)
