Sintra, Cabo da Roca, & Cascais Portugal

Hey all so I already posted all about the highlight from this day which was Pena Palace but we got to do so many other cool things on this tour that I really wanted to dedicate a post just to it. After the palace we stopped in the little town of Sintra were we got to shop, sightsee and eat. Our tour guide gave us great recommendations for a pastry shop called Casa Piriquita and it was so popular definitely go if you are in Sintra. We got the tradition pastries of the area and we even went back and got more to have for later!

We also got to shop all the cork products. Did you know that Portugal’s biggest export is cork like for the top of wine bottles. There were cork purses and shoes and postcards it was very cool. We ate sandwiches at
Loja do Vinho and then had a local spirit of cherry liquor in a chocolate shot glass that you eat afterward. It’s amazing. The cherry liquor is kind of like cough syrup but the whole experience is fun and the chocolate is a good balance.

After sintra we went to
Cabo da Roca which is the most western point in the continental Europe. Our tour guide was telling us that back when people that the earth was flat and ended with Europe this is where people thought the end of the world was. It was gorgeous but so windy. Also there are fences and guard rails for a reason. People were climbing over then and you could see well worn footpaths of people who had definitely not stayed behind the railing. But our tour guide said to be extremely caution because back in March he was there with a group and he actually witnessed two people fall of the cliff. It’s a steep drop into rocks and the water so they definitely didn’t survive. So we were extra cautious. Also can you tell how windy it is from the top photo of my holding my dress down! Definitely did not wear the best attire for that location / situation. But Clark and I had a good time laughing about it.

We drove along the coast for a while and we got to stop at a few more places that our tour guide felt worth pointing out and then we ended up in the beach town of Cascais. There were women on the town beach just out without a top on. We asked the tour guide if it was a topless beach and he said no but it is common to do it all over Portugal and it's not a big deal to anyone. We had the best ice cream from
Santini if you are in Cascais you must go get ice cream at this shop.  We walked around some more, admired the pretty town, and browsed in the shops. It was a lovely day.
