A weekend in Durham

So we went to Durham NC over the weekend. Clark had Friday off because of observance of July 4th so we had an extra fun long weekend planned. To celebrate July 4th and also our wedding anniversary which is July 5th! We left early Friday morning, we dropped off Knox at the vet and then headed to Durham NC. It’s about an hour and a half from Fayetteville so not to bad of a drive. We also saw lots of sunflower fields on the side of the highway and I wanted to run and frolic in them. Unfortunately we were driving by at 65 mph so it wasn’t gonna happen.
We first stopped at Duck Donuts in Cary NC. Duck Donuts originated on the Outer Banks of NC and we have had it twice before when we went to Nags Head. But now their is one open in Cary NC so we had to get it! They are made fresh and hot and dipped in fresh got chocolate or maple or peanut butter sauce and covered with your choice of topping. They are so GREAT! I really like the cinnamon and sugar one as well and Clark said he loved the maple with bacon.
Next we went to Duke University. We had been a couple times before. We had seen the Duke Chapel and also went to a Duke Football game last fall. This time we wanted to go see Cameron Indoor Stadium. Since it is open Mon-Fri 11am-5pm there is a museum and a Duke hall of fame and you can even do into the stadium and see the court. There was a girls bball camp going on but we sat at the top of the stadium and watched for a while.
After we left Duke University we needed some food. I heard The Original Q Shack is great but we weren’t really feeling BBQ so we went to Nanataco which was ALSO GREAT! I got the tacos with chicken and garlic steak and Clark got the fish tacos.
We then checked into our hotel and relaxed for a while and then headed out to DefyGravity. We had been to the one in Raleigh with some friends this time we went to the one in Durham. The one in Durham was smaller but it was still really fun. Clark was a little disappointed that their was so basketball trampoline but their was a good ninja corse and we did some fun flips into the foam pit.
We walked around Durham. Jumped on the Bull! Got some food. After hanging out at the hotel again for a while we got some late night ice cream at the Parlor! I got the blackberry and cookies and cream and Clark got the chocolate and blackberry. The ice cream is 100% homemade and so creamy and delicious.
On Saturday we spent the first half of our day at Eno River State Park which was awesome! The river was awesome and good and their was rapids and we even saw 3 turtles! There were lots of people swimming and with their dogs. I wish Knox was with us but we will have to take him back sometime!
In the afternoon we went to the Durham Bulls baseball game! I gave Clark another anniversary present early which was matching Durham Bulls jerserys. Old school ones that are like the ones you see in the movie Bull Durham. The game was great as always although someone was sitting in our seats at first but then we went and sat in the shade. We also got Rita’s which is delicious! After the game we got to watch fireworks for 4th of July and it was the prefect end to the baseball game and the weekend!
